Throughout this class we have learned many different strategies for writing. My favorite active reading strategy is to annotate and comment on a piece of text.. I make sure to highlight any words I am unfamiliar with or r need to look up. I also annotate anything that i am thinking when reading, especially things like self-to-text and text-to-text connections. My favorite brainstorming strategy is to read the prompt and annotate and make comments on that same piece of paper, short sentences that help me think of complete ideas. From there I typically make a bulleted list of all the important points I want make in my essay. My favorite drafting strategy is to first develop a thesis based on my bulleted list, and work backwards to create claim sentences and write the rest of my essay. My favorite revision strategy is to print out my essay, and annotate it by hand while reading aloud. This helps me pick up any words or sentences that sound out of place. My favorite polishing strategy is to try to develop thoughts in the style of the templates from They Say I Say. My personal favorite is the naysayer template (page 82). I really enjoy using a naysayer template, because it allows me to mentally spar and debate myself, and helps me make sure I fairly represent the opposing side of a debate.
